Amalfi Coast Mural for Molinaro Ristorante
In the spring of 2018, Pittsburgh restaurateur Ron Molinaro commissioned Jennifer Rempel to beautify the interiors of the newest and largest of his local dining establishments: Molinaro Ristorante, at 2 PPG Place in downtown Pittsburgh’s bustling Market Square. Ron’s dream was to take his customers on a culinary journey along Italy’s beautiful Amalfi Coast. He took great care to recruit an award-winning chef, hire and train experienced staff, and source authentic recipes, fine wines, distinctive ingredients, and other unique specialty items from the region.
Ever the visionary, Ron set out to take his customers on a total cultural journey. To that end, he gave Jennifer complete creative freedom to tell the story of the Amalfi Coast — in images that span the region: from Naples, the birthplace of pizza; to Sorrento, where limoncello is made from the fruit of plentiful lemon trees; to Vietri sul Mare, home of world-renowned ceramic craftspeople.
Jennifer carefully researched the coastal towns to develop ideas for her art, and then created a series of sketches that she used as the basis for the paintings. Her finished mural spans 110 feet along the restaurant’s winding, coast-like bulkhead.
She also designed and painted colorful, Mediterranean-influenced patterns in the entryway, to warmly welcome customers to this impressive eatery.
Jennifer has produced numerous murals for Ron Molinaro’s restaurants. Click here to see an image of her famous “wine maiden” mural for Il Pizzaiolo in Pittsburgh’s Mt. Lebanon neighborhood.
